Personal Support Worker (PSW) Program Overview

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) Fast Track Program at NACPT Pharma College prepares students for rewarding careers in healthcare by developing the practical skills, professional knowledge, and compassionate approach required to support individuals in a variety of care settings. Personal Support Workers play an important role in assisting seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those recovering from illness, helping them maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life.

Through a combination of classroom learning and supervised clinical experience, students gain hands-on training in personal care, mobility assistance, infection prevention and control, therapeutic communication, healthcare documentation, and client-centered support. Graduates are prepared to work in long-term care homes, hospitals, retirement residences, community organizations, and private home care environments throughout Ontario.

Personal Support Workers are essential members of Canada's healthcare workforce, providing compassionate care and support to individuals in a variety of settings. Graduates of the NACPT Personal Support Worker (PSW) Fast Track Program may pursue employment opportunities in hospitals, long-term care homes, retirement residences, rehabilitation centres, home care agencies, and community healthcare organizations. This rewarding career offers the opportunity to support individuals' well-being while building valuable experience within the healthcare sector.

Graduates may qualify for positions such as Perioperative Support Assistant (PSA), Attendant Services Worker, Personal Care Attendant, Senior Care Provider, Resident Assistant, Home Health and Personal Care Advisor, Support Services Attendant, Community Support Worker, Respite Worker, Home Support Worker, Patient Care Assistant, Health Care Assistant, Continuing Care Assistant, and Health Care Aide.

Clinical Placement Experience

The program includes mandatory supervised clinical placements that provide valuable real-world experience in both community and facility-based healthcare settings. These placements allow students to apply classroom knowledge, strengthen practical competencies, and gain confidence while working directly with clients under professional supervision.

Admission Requirement

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent; or
  • Mature Students or at least 18 years of age and pass the Wonderlic SLE with a minimum score of 11
  • Signed Vulnerable Sector Disclaimer
  • Signed Medical Disclaimer
  • Clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector, within 45 days of commencement of study
  • Medical Report within 45 days of commencement of study
