Required Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Cannabis Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Agriculture, Horticulture, Food Science, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• Relevant hands-on experience in the legal cannabis industry or a closely related regulated industry.

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Personal Support Worker (PSW) Instructor to join our healthcare training team. The successful candidate will provide classroom and practical instruction to students preparing for careers in personal support, community care, long-term care, retirement homes, hospitals, and other healthcare settings.

Position Overview

The PSW Instructor will be responsible for delivering engaging theoretical and practical instruction based on the approved curriculum and applicable Ontario requirements. The instructor will help students develop the knowledge, technical competencies, communication skills, and professional behaviours necessary to provide safe, respectful, and person-centred care.

The ideal candidate will have strong clinical or healthcare experience, excellent teaching and communication skills, and a genuine commitment to student success and quality patient/resident care.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver classroom, laboratory, and practical instruction for Personal Support Worker students.
• Teach students the principles and practices of safe, compassionate, and person-centred care.
• Provide instruction in personal hygiene, grooming, bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, positioning, and other activities of daily living.
• Teach students appropriate techniques for assisting clients with transfers, mobility, nutrition, hydration, and routine personal care.
• Provide instruction on infection prevention and control, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and workplace sanitation.
• Teach students about client safety, fall prevention, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
• Provide instruction on basic anatomy, physiology, common health conditions, aging, and the effects of illness and disability.
• Teach communication skills, therapeutic relationships, cultural sensitivity, privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and client rights.
• Educate students regarding abuse prevention, recognition, reporting responsibilities, and professional boundaries.
• Teach students the importance of documentation, observation, reporting, and effective communication with healthcare teams.
• Incorporate principles of mental health, dementia care, palliative care, and end-of-life support as applicable to the curriculum.
• Demonstrate appropriate clinical and caregiving techniques during laboratory and practical sessions.
• Develop and deliver lesson plans, presentations, demonstrations, assignments, quizzes, examinations, and practical assessments.
• Evaluate student knowledge, skills, and professional conduct using appropriate assessment methods.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student development.
• Maintain accurate student attendance, grades, competency records, and other required documentation.
• Prepare students for clinical placements and employment in healthcare and community-care environments.
• Support students during clinical or practicum experiences, as required.
• Communicate with clinical placement sites and relevant college personnel regarding student progress and performance.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
• Identify students requiring additional academic or practical support and provide appropriate guidance or referrals.
• Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum reviews, orientations, student events, and other academic activities.
• Remain current with healthcare practices, legislation, professional standards, and developments relevant to PSW education.

Required Qualifications

• Recognized education and/or professional credentials in Personal Support Work, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant, or another relevant healthcare discipline.
• Significant practical experience in healthcare, personal support, long-term care, community care, retirement living, or a related environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of personal care, patient/resident safety, infection prevention and control, and person-centred care.
• Previous experience providing training, mentoring, coaching, or instruction is strongly preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and classroom-management skills.
• Ability to teach students from diverse cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
• Commitment to maintaining professional standards and promoting student success.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience as a PSW instructor, healthcare instructor, clinical educator, or vocational college instructor.
• Nursing or Practical Nursing background is an asset.
• Experience supervising students during clinical or practicum placements.
• Adult education, teaching, or instructor training is an asset.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification is an asset.
• Experience in long-term care, hospitals, retirement homes, home care, community care, or other healthcare environments.
• Familiarity with Ontario healthcare practices, legislation, and workplace requirements.
• Experience working with adult learners and newcomers to Canada is an asset.
