The Food Handler Certification program is a legal requirement in Canada for many food industry workers to comply with provincial food safety laws. It is recommended for anyone who publicly serves or handles food to complete food safety training to ensure safe practices.
The course covers essential topics including food safety principles, contamination prevention, sanitation practices, understanding the temperature danger zone, and knowledge about microorganisms. It also teaches how to resolve common food safety issues, implement precautionary measures, and understand regulatory requirements set by Toronto Public Health.
The entire Food Handler course and exam can be completed in one day at NACPT, guided by industry experts. The time needed may vary depending on your language proficiency and study skills, with support available for exam retakes if necessary.
The final exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed within one hour, with a passing score of 70% or higher.
Participants can engage actively with instructors and ask questions for clarification throughout the course.
This course is designed for anyone working in the food industry, restaurant owners and employees, personal support workers, lunch supervisors in schools and senior homes, as well as early childcare assistants.
